The Spanich club announced that Messi would miss about eight weeks of action due to a knee injury he sustained after clashing with goalkeeper Javi Varas inside the 18-yard box, just three minutes into Barca’s 2-1 victory over the newly promoted team on Saturday.
The Argentine suffered a tear in the medial collateral ligament of his left knee.
Messi attempted to continue but failed to shrug off the knock, with Barca coach Luis Enrique replacing him with Munir seven minutes later.
At the moment of contact, the Barça player’s left knee collided with the opposition defender, Pedro Bigas.
